We all know it’s what’s on the inside that counts, right?!
Wrong!
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt during my time on this planet as an overweight/obese person, it’s that excess fat is a sure-fire certification of social discrimination.
I write this blog from the perspective of a human being who’s lost over half his body weight in the space of a decade; whose treatment by the world has radically shifted since his BMI dropped from the red zone down into the green.
I’ve seen attitudes shift, adjust, change and downright revolutionize over the years, as distant relatives and old friends have transformed their opinions toward me, often without even realizing it.
The purpose of this blog is to compile a list of anecdotal ‘evidence’ to demonstrate, to all and sundry, that nearly every aspect of everyday life can be different for someone who is, or was, consumed by excess mass.
I hope to post an on-going list of changes I, and other weight-loss recruits, have experienced as we’ve dropped inches off our waists, and how subtle shifts have occurred in our day to day existence: from phrases we hear everyday with clockwork precision to virtually invisible reactions only ‘former fatties’ would ever notice.
So without further ado, it’s time to get reading with ‘Weight Loss Hate Loss’ change number one…
